Biliran Province Towns Suspend Classes Due To “Marilyn”
BILIRAN – About six towns in the Biliran province recently cancelled classes due to tropical depression “Marilyn”.
Previously, the town of Alamada in Cotabato cancelled classes from pre-school up to elementary in both public and private schools due to the bad weather.
The said weather have been prevailing over that town ever since last night as it faced moderate to heavy rainfall. This prompted the local disaster risk management to cancel classes up to elementary.
Recently, six out of eight towns of the Biliran province cancelled classes in all levels.
According to Inquirer, here are the following towns that confirmed the suspension of the classes:
- Almeria
- Culaba
- Kawayan
- Caibiran
- Biliran
- Naval (Provincial Capital)
As for the other two towns Maripipi and Cabucgayan, the town mayors have yet to confirm the cancellation of the classes.
Naval Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office officer Jaymar Marino said that they instantly observed the landslide and flood-prone areas in the provincial capital followed up by the heavy rainfall.
As per the report, Marino added that Naval had been facing heavy rainfall and strong winds since morning.
PAGASA earlier announced that a low pressure area (LPA) recently enhanced into a tropical depression, eventually called Marilyn. The storm has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines, they will face partly cloudy to cloudy skies with remote rains due to localized thunderstorms.
