Video of Elephants Go Berserk During Religious Festival Elicits Reactions
ELEPHANTS – 18 festival-goers were hurt after 2 elephants went on a rampage during a religious festival in Sri Lanka.
There is a reason why huge or deadly animals should be kept away from crowded places. There is a great chance that they will hurt humans most especially when they are not trained very well by their masters.
In a previous article, a circus tiger in China escaped from its cage and ran to the nearby cornfields. Fortunately, the animal did not anyone but it died the morning after. The zookeeper said it was hit by a car.
There was a tragic incident involving the elephants in Sri Lanka recently. Based on a report from South China Morning Post, two elephants went on a rampage during the Buddhist pageant procession.
The huge animals which are owned by wealthy families or Buddhist temples are part of the annual event. Animals wore decorations like lights and headdresses for the said pageant.
According to the report, the rich families lend their elephants for the procession as a symbol of prosperity. However, the mood of the animals changed during the special event.
It can be seen on the video that one of the elephants suddenly ran forward running into another elephant at the front. People immediately scattered. The huge animal became violent, pushing people, and ran.
Based on the report, 18 festival-goers were injured on the rampage. Two of them got serious injuries. One is treated for an ear injury while the other is being observed for possible abdominal damage.
