Filipino Workers Are Given 2000 Jobs Annually in Yukon, Canada

SILVESTRE BELLO III – Labor Secretary Bello stated that there will be a total of 2000 jobs for skilled Filipino workers available in Yukon, Canada each year.

The Department of Labor and Employment stated in a press release that the job opportunities will open up various industries. Bello said that he and his counterpart in Yukon signed a joint communique benefiting Filipino workers.

“The joint communique with Yukon, Canada contains a request for 2,000 skilled workers every year,” Bello stated. He also said that Filipino workers residing in Yukon looked happy and well taken care of.

He added that Filipino in Yukon are well protected and respected without any discrimination. He then said that they have not heard a single complaint.

He then continued and said that their team thinks there are about 20,000 residents in Yukon, of which, 3,000 are Filipinos. Bello added that everywhere you go, you would see and meet Filipinos.

The labor secretary ordered Bernard Olalia, Philippine Overseas Employment Administrator, to accelerate the deployment of workers to Yukon. Bello also directed Olalia to quicken the processing of the Overseas Employments Certificate (OEC) of Filipinos who will work in Vancouver and Toronto.

The salaries in Yukon would range from P80,000 to P300,000. Available jobs are mostly for nurses, heavy equipment operators, engineers, caregivers, chefs, call center agents and other local job opportunities.

According to an article from Dole.gov.ph, workers interested should be fluent in English, a degree related to the job, had appropriate training, and physically and mentally fit. “Canadians prefer Filipino workers because of the impression of our quality of work and efficiency”, Bello stated.

He added that the Canadians are conscious about the importance of family in our culture. He then said that because of this, Canadian employers would urge Filipino workers to migrate their family to Canada.
