Filipino Job Applicants Warned Against Using Social Media When Searching For Jobs

The Philippine Embassy to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has warned the Filipino job applicants against applying job using social media.

The embassy made the announcement after 23 aspiring Pinays migrant workers from UAE have repatriated for not undergoing on legal procedure required by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

Most of the aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers made their transactions via Facebook without knowing that they were dealing with an illegal recruiter. The female victims temporarily stayed at Bahay Kanlungan before they were sent back to the Philippines.

Since January 2019, around 1,081 distressed undocumented Filipinos were repatriated, according to the embassy. Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) assisted the undocumented workers.

As of now, around 410 Filipinos are under the POLO-OWWA custody in Abu Dhabi while there are 276 others in Dubai wherein 16 of them are set to be sent back to the Philippines on Sunday (September 1, 2019).

The embassy also expressed their gratitude towards UAE government for helping the distressed Pinay workers.

The distressed Filipinos would wait nearly two months before their repatriation due to required procedures.
