MRT-3 Trips Suspended Due To Unexpected Power Supply Issue

MRT-3 – Trips of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) have been suspended during rush hour on Friday (September 6).

According to ABS-CBN News, the cause of the trip suspension is the overhead catenary line in the Guadalupe northbound station, which is for the trains’ power supply, that was cut off at approximately 6:17 AM, according to MRT authorities.

The trips from North Avenue to Shaw Boulevard stations were primarily halted. However, at 6:40AM, the trips from the whole line was eventually suspended.

Michael Capati, MRT Director for Operations, said that this may cause problems since the power it supplied is intermitten so they decided to halt the trips. He further added that the line cannot simply be restored as they have to examine whether or not the line is safe to travel.

Here are some posts by ABS-CBN’s official Twitter account and their DZMM of the incident:

As per the report, the aftermath of the incident caused citizens to be late for work or school.

In the North Avenue station, a teacher named Kelvin Meneses of Makati High School said that this will make him late, further elaborating that he will miss two subjects.

Another passenger named Jomar Alon said that he went early so that he won’t miss the train but his efforts was in vain, adding that he has to find another way.

Other passengers chose to stay until the line is ready to operate instead of enduring the traffic in EDSA.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed alternative vehicles for the stranded passengers, as told by spokesperson Celine Pialago. This includes 50 city buses, 3 MMDA buses and 2 military trucks.

MRT was previously suspended last April 22.
