Maker Of Lactum Infant Formula Voluntarily Recalls Batch of Shipments Due To Mislabeling
LACTUM INFANT FORMULA – The popular infant formula by Mead Johnson Nutrition, voluntarily recalled a batch of shipments because the products were not the same as the box label.
Mead Johnson posted a public service advisory that said they would immediately initiate the recall of Lactum 0-6 months Infant Formula 350g carton with batch number PL9GDL5B. They said that they have received an inquiry regarding the aforementioned product and instantly began investigation.
They found out that that the batch of Lactum 0-6 months Infant Formula contained a foil pouch of Lactum 6-12 months milk supplement powder. MJN stated that they have already notified relevant authorities about this issue.
Mead Johnson Nutrition said that they have transparently addressed their actions and preventive measures. They added that the safety of their consumers is their top priority, especially the health of infants.
With this, FDA has advised public to stop feeding of the recalled batch to your infants aged 0-6 months old. Continued intake of this product could cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance due to the formula being intended for infants 6-12 months old.
There would also be a greater risk for Cronobacter sakazakii infection. These foodborne pathogenic bacteria has the ability to survive very dry environments such as powdered infant formula.
In studies conducted by the US Center for Disease Control, Cronobacter sickness cases are rare, though it can be lethal for infants and serious for the elderly. This bacteria could cause wound or urinary tract infections.
