Cavite Jail Inmate Geryc Miranda Dies After Fight Over Space in Slightly Crowded Jail
A certain inmate detained at the Dasmariñas City Police Station in Cavite died after a fight over space in the slightly crowded jail.
On Thursday (September 5, 2019), the Dasmariñas City Police reported that one inmate died after a scuffle inside the jail. The victim has been identified as Geryc Miranda who was found unconscious by other prisoners.
Dasmariñas City Police chief Col. Nerwin Ricohermoso reported that Miranda has been involved in a brawl against his fellow detainees over space inside the custodial facility. The inmate was rushed to the Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas after the incident.
The police officers said that the doctors declared Miranda ‘dead on arrival’ at about 8:50 am due to head injury, 10 minutes after his arrival at the health center around 8:40 am. The victim’s body will be subjected for an autopsy examination.
“Head injury, dahil sa tinamong bugbog at sinakal din daw ayon sa mga witness na kapwa detainee,” Ricohermoso said.
Ricohermoso reported that the victim might have started the fight, according to the initial investigation. Two inmates may also face homicide charges due to the incident. However, the official refused to give the name of the involved inmates.
