PAGASA: Severe Tropical Storm Liwayway Brings Heavy Rains

PAGASA – PAGASA recently said that severe tropical storm Liwayway continue to intensify as it bring heavy rains to northern Luzon.

Now internationally called Lingling, as it continues to intensify, the weather disturbance makes its way to the Philippine Sea.

A report from PhilStar states that Batanes is still under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 as of 5 PM Tuesday (September 3).

It is still expected that it will not make landfall but the agency warned the locals of Batanes of strong winds that Liwayway brought.

As per the report, the following areas will still face light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains due to Liwayway | Lingling:

  • Batanes
  • Babuyan Group of Islands

On the other hand, the following areas will still experience scattered light to moderate rains with instances of heavy rains due to the habagat or southwest monsoon enhanced by Liwayway | Lingling:

  • Central Luzon
  • Metro Manila
  • Calabarzon
    • Cavite
    • Laguna
    • Batangas
    • Rizal
    • Quezon
  • Northern Palawan
    • Calamian Islands
  • Provinces of Mindoro
  • Cordillera Administrative Region

Liwayway was spotted at 4 PM at approximately 225 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes. It is packed with maximum susdtained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 135 kilometers per hour.

The weather disturbance is moving north to Taiwan at about 15 kilometers per hour. It is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Wednesday evening to Thursday morning.
