Here are the signs that could identify gifted kids
GIFTED KIDS – Here are the signs that a kid could be gifted and parents should be aware of these to develop the capability of their children.
Every child is special and parents consider them as blessings. However, aside from the automatic happiness that the bundles of joy can give to their parents and to other people, there are some of them that are extra special. They are called gifted kids.
These are the signs of kids who are gifted:
Milestones
When the child achieves developmental milestones way before the predicted period of time, then, it can be a sign that your child is ready to do more. “Many parents of gifted children note that they often master developmental milestones at an earlier age than expected. In particular, language skills may be significantly above age level. Many gifted children often develop an extensive vocabulary and speak in complex sentences at an early age,” Eboni Hollier, MD, board-certified in developmental and behavioral pediatrics said.
Love for reading
Kids that are genius tend to be voracious readers. At an early age, they develop a deep interest in reading. They learn to read quickly and earlier than other children the same age. Aside from this, they enjoy doing the activity for the sake of pleasure.
Curiosity about the world
The curiosity that kids have about the world can be a sign that they are gifted. They have an insatiable curiosity to find out about the very small details of how things work, according to Reader’s Digest. This trait of a genius kid might annoy their parents because they are always asking questions and always finding an answer for the things they want to understand.
Early pattern of recognition
At an early age, gifted kids can recognize repetition and not just simple patterns and colors. “Gifted children notice everything, from which bus passes the house after breakfast time to how many bricks can fit inside the toy trunk. They are very good at observing and remembering key information,” Niranjan Reddy, PhD, from SuperBaby said. Genius kids can recognize repeated behaviors, activities, and actions more easily compared to other children.
Detailed knowledge in a favorite topic
One of the characteristics of a gifted child is having an in-depth knowledge of the topic that interests him or her. “A prodigy is someone who, by the age of roughly 11, displays expert proficiency or a profound grasp of the fundamentals in a field usually only undertaken by adults,” according to Science Daily.
Comfortable with the company of adults
Most children play and bond with their fellow children but genius kids enjoy being with adults or older peers. They have the tendency to feel bored at school for having a task that is easy for them. That is why they seek the company of someone that is older than them.
Focus and determination
Children that are genius are very focused on completing a certain task. Often, they do this until they acquire the mastery of it. “Gifted children typically have an amazing sense of focus. When given a task, they tend to work on it without distractions until completion. TV, video games, and social media do not divert their attention, allowing them to finish with efficiency,” Sunny Verma, founder and CEO of Tutorbright shared.
Leadership skills
Playing the role of a leader is easy for genius kids to do because of their maturity and natural organizational abilities. Usually, they take charge and find solutions for a certain situation. Aside from this, they find ways to improve.
Originality
Exceptional is one word that can describe gifted kids. Aside from understanding advanced works they also have the capacity to share their unique works or ideas. “They ask ‘How many different ways can I look at it?, ‘How can I rethink the way I see it?’, and ‘How many different ways can I solve it?’” Creativity Post stated.
Parents should also remember that the young geniuses are also kids. Times come that they also make mistakes. This will prompt mothers and fathers to understand this aspect of their kids.
