PAGASA: Batanes On Signal Number 1, Liwayway Strengthens
PAGASA – Weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday that Batanes is under Signal No. 1 as Liwayway further enhances.
Tropical depression Liwayway, which was previously spotted 340 kilometers east northeast of the municipality of Daet, Catanduanes at 10 A.M Monday (September 2), has its center spotted at approximately 255 kilometers east of the municipality of Calayan, Cagayan.
A report from Inquirer states that the weather disturbance is currently packed with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometer per hour and gustiness of up to 105 kilometers per hour.
The agency raised Signal No. 1 over the province of Batanes, further advising the locals to take preventive measures and expect possible strong winds.
As per the report, the following areas will face light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains due to tropical depression Liwayway:
- Apayao
- Cagayan
- Babuyan Group of Islands
- Batanes
On the other hand, the following areas will face light to moderate rains with chances of heavy rain due to habagat or southwest monsoon:
- Ilocos Region
- Central Luzon
- Metro Manila
- Calabarzon
- Mimaropa
- Panay Island
- Guimaras
- Cordillera Administrative Region
The agency still says that the weather disturbance is expected not to make landfall and is reported to leave the nation’s Area of Responsibility on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.
