Sandiganbayan Suspends Limay, Bataan Mayor Nelson David Amid Graft Case Proceedings
BATAAN MAYOR – Limay Mayor Nelson David is suspended in line with the graft case that he is facing now.
Even the highest positions in the city and municipality are not exempted from what is right according to the law of the land. A lot of politicians are actually facing charges before a court.
Amid the proceedings, suspension from performing duties may take place. It is to make sure that the person faced with charges won’t use his or her power with regards to the charges against him or her.
Currently, a Bataan Mayor is suspended over the graft charges against him. Its the Sandiganbayan 6th Division that released the order.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Nelson David of Limay town is facing graft charges due to the alleged irregular appraisal of his family’s lots. The said properties were owned by his sons – Christian Ryan and Richie Jayson.
The lots were bought by the municipality at Php 10.180 million in 2002. There are allegations that the increase in the market value of the lots owned by the Mayor’s son was “extraordinary”.
Based on the report, through a resolution, the Bataan Mayor is ordered suspended for 90 days over the graft case against him. According to the Court, the suspension is mandatory under the Republic Act No. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
“Accused Nelson David is ordered to cease and desist from further performing and/or exercising the functions, duties, and privileges of his position upon the implementation of this order of preventive suspension,” the resolution reads.
The resolution was written by Associate Justice Karl Miranda. It was with the concurrence of Associate Justice Narce Vivero and Division Chairperson Sarah Jane Fernandez based on the report.
On the part of Mayor Nelson David, he stressed that it is impossible for him to have connections to influence witnesses or tamper the evidence. He emphasized that he was not long the mayor of the town before he won the mayoral seat during the May 2019 midterm elections.
