Here’s Reason Why Donald Trump Wants To Buy Greenland
DONALD TRUMP – Here is the reason why President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland for the United States of America.
Following a previous article, US President Donald Trump said he wanted to buy Greenland for the US. Several politicians reacted saying it’s a really bad idea and that large autonomous country of Denmark is not for sale.
Member of Parliament Aaja Chemnitz was disappointed by the 73-year-old politician. She said he treated her homeland like a commodity.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, President Donald Trump canceled his visit to Denmark after learning Greenland is not for sale. The politician instead launched a war of words against the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The professor at the Institute Libre d’Etude Relations, Mikaa Mered, said the US president’s way of showing interest in the Arctic resources. She also said this is Trump’s tactics to sidetrack from domestic issues.
According to the report, the professor said Donald Trump’s offer acquire Greenland was a signal to China and the Arctic Nations. He fears the rising influence of Russia and China in the Arctic Region. The Arctic has 30% undiscovered gas and 13% of the world’s undiscovered oil reserves.
“When it comes to the Russians, (Trump’s) logic is to say: ‘You won’t always be the main power in the Arctic even if you are the chair of the Arctic Council in 2021’”
“And when it comes to the Chinese, the idea is… ‘We won’t let you get a foothold in Greenland’,” she added.
Based on the report, Mered believed that the US President will continue to use the case of the beautiful island and to test the feeling of the Europeans about Greenland.
“It’s possible that this whole hullabaloo is a political, media and economic test balloon designed to see how strongly Europeans feel about Greenland… he will continue to use the case of Greenland, especially since Denmark is a fairly servile ally that won’t turn its back on the US because of this.”
