1 Dead After Lightning Strikes Fisherman’s Boat In Negros Oriental

LIGHTNING – A lightning bolt caused the death of the fisherman in Negros Oriental while his companion suffered several burns in his body.

Fishing is one of the main and important sources of livelihood for Filipino people. Most people living in the coastal villages own boats and they just drove off to the sea to find food.

However, there are some fishermen who still venture the sea in bad weather or too late to dock during a storm. There have been lots of reports in the county about lighting incidents.

The local authorities have been advising the Filipino fisherfolks to put a lightning protection system on their vessel to avoid being struck by lightning.

Based on a report from GMA News, 2 fishermen from Negros Oriental were struck by a bolt of strong lightning. One of them died.

On Tuesday, August 20, the fisher Jaime Flores and Julieto Tumabid were on board a small fishing craft and sailing along the seas of Sta. Catalina. Due to the strong lightning, the two of them were thrown off their boat.

According to the report, Jaime Flores died while his companion Julieto Tumabid suffered several burns in different parts of his body. Tumabid was lucky to be alive after the deadly lightning.
