BUWAN NG WIKA – In the month of August in the current year 2019, Filipinos are currently celebrating the event called Buwan ng Wika.

Official Theme of BNW 2019

In the official website of the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF) or the Commission on the Filipino Language in English translation, the theme of today’s event is “Wikang Katutubo: Tungo sa Isang Bansang Filipino”.

The KWF is in collaboration with the proclamation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages (IYIL).

This event is also vital to the KWF’s Medyo Matagalang Plano in the year interval 2017-2020 via the fulfilling of the national programs for the development, enrichment, and propagation of the indigenous languages that can contribute to the welfare and development of the Filipinos.

The 2019 Logo of the Buwan ng Wika shown above contains the following three vital aspects:

  1. Features the abstraction of the woven design from the various ethnic groups of the nation which symbolizes the character of participation of the Filipino language and the embracing of the various native language of the nation
  2. Features the various colors which features the unity and effectiveness flow of connection of the native language of the nation
  3. Features the Baybayin “Ka” at the center of the official logo which is presented and honored by the KWF of the native language as the summary of the mandate of the KWF as they believe that being Filipino lies in the native languages.

Schedule of BNW 2019

  • Week 1 (August 5-9) – Ako at ang Katutubong Wika Ko
  • Week 2 (August 12-16) – Pagbasa at Paglaya: Pagpapalusog ng mga Katutubong Panitikan at Kaalamang-bayan
  • Week 3 (August 19-23) – Sarikultura: Multilingguwalismo at Pag-uugnayan para sa Isang Bansang Filipino
  • Week 4 (August 26-30) – Pangangalaga sa mga Katutubong Wika, Pangangalaga sa Bansang Filipino
