PANATANG MAKABAYAN – Here is a full text of the Patriotic Oath of the Philippines.

In the Philippines, private and public schools usually hold flag ceremonies before starting the class. Some schools have it everyday while others have it during Mondays, Fridays, and days when there are special events.

During school flag ceremonies, the students and teachers would pray, sing the national anthem, and recite the Patriotic Oath of the Philippines. Some schools also sing the hymn that tells about the city or province where the educational institution is.

With regards to the Patriotic Oath of the Philippines or more commonly called as Panatang Makabayan, here is a full text of it:

Panatang Makabayan
Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas
Aking lupang sinilangan
Tahanan ng aking lahi
Kinukupkop ako at tinutulungang
Maging malakas, masipag at marangal

Here is the English version of the Patriotic Oath of the Philippines:

I love the Philippines, the land of my birth,
The home of my people; it protects me and helps me
Become strong, hardworking and honorable.
Because I love the Philippines,
I will heed the counsel of my parents,
I will obey the rules of my school,
I will perform the duties of a patriotic citizen,
Serving, studying, and praying faithfully.
I shall offer my life, dreams, successes
To the Philippine nation.

  1. It doesn’t sound Patriotic changing the words of the Original Panatang Makabayan! This only shows that you don’t appreciate the Talino of our ancestors! It’s a shame why educators of today agreed to this. Hoping this present administration will bring the Original back! I wonder why this young generations (most of them) are poorly educated, just noticed.
