Here’s Why Microsoft workers listen to some Skype calls
MICROSOFT – Here is the reason why Microsoft workers listen to some of their customers Skype calls.
Surely, lots of people will react if they learn that someone is listening to their conversation or recording their calls. However, there are some countries that allow their government to record their phone conversation.
Recently, the American multinational tech company, Microsoft, revealed some information about the collection of their voice data.
Based on a report from South China Morning Post, Microsoft company admitted that their workers listen to their customers Cortana recording and Skype calls.
The US technology titan also clarified that they get their customers permission first before they collect their voice data. Their employees listen to the conversation to refine its voice translation feature that is offered by the telecom application, Skype and its virtual assistant Cortana.
According to the report, they will only ‘listen’ to their customers call after obtaining their permission. Microsoft defended their company’s voice data handling after a report from the news website Vice surfaced saying workers are eavesdropping on personal topics such as weight loss and relationships.
“Microsoft collects voice data to provide and improve voice-enabled services like search, voice commands, dictation or translation services,” the company said.
Based on the report, Microsoft explained that some contractors review their customer’s conversation to improve the quality of their translations.
“We strive to be transparent about our collection and use of voice data to ensure customers can make informed choices about when and how their voice data is used.”
The company had their customers’ permission before they start collecting their voice data. They also said vendors have to meet privacy standards that are set by the European law.
