PH Army Discovers NPA Hideout In Cagayan De Oro

NPA – Philippine Army found the hideout of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the hinterland barangays in Cagayan De Oro

The New People’s Army (NPA) was founded by Jose Maria Sison, Lucio Manlapaz, and Bernabe Buscayno in 1969. Their group operates mostly in rural areas in the Philippines.

Members of the group collect taxes to the people they encounter in the mountains and businesses. Their group was accused of allegedly destroying properties of they don’t get what they want.

In January 2019, NPA allegedly destroyed and burned the heavy equipment they spotted in a mining site in Ayungon, Negros Occidental.

The group also allegedly attacked the hydro-power plant site in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro last February 2019. It seems that these group feared nobody including the Philippine army.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, the 65 Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army recently discovered the temporary hideout of the NPA in Barangay Pigsag-an in Cagayan de Oro. It was after the encounter of 103 Brigade to the rebels on Tuesday, July 30 at Lumba-Bayabao, Lanao del Sur.

The commander of 403 Infantry Brigade, Brig. Gen. Edgardo De Leon, someone tipped them that the rebels went on different directions after the encounter.

“Naabutan natin ‘yung NPA terrorist nan aka-standby sa parang temporary hideout nila,” de Leon said.

According to the report, De Leon said one of the armies got injured during the encounter. He also said they might have injured several of the rebels as they saw lots of bloodstains on the area.

“Doon sa pursuit operation, maraming bloodstains ang nakita doon so mayroon po kaming suspetsa na maraming tinamaan sa grupo nila. Actually, may nabalitaan kami mayroong dinala sa ospital tinutugis sila ngayon ng kapulisan kung saang ospital sila dinala,” he said.

Based on the report, the army recovered a few of the NPA’s equipment including the anti-personnel mine.

They assured the residents in Cagayan de Oro that the rebel was just passing on their hinterland barangays.
