When you see mouse droppings which resemble dark grains of rice but a quarter-inch long, that is an indication that there is one hiding in your home. However, when you see one mouse, there is a great possibility that it is not alone. “They’ve gotten so good at living with humans. When you get one, others will find their way in. Plus, they multiply very quickly,” Cindy Mannes, a spokeswoman for the National Pest Management Association said.

You can make your own home remedy for this pest which is consist of peppermint sprays, dryer sheet stuffings, and cotton balls soaked in oil and cayenne pepper. However, as mice are used to living with humans, they might not be scared of these odors associated with humans. Meanwhile, you can also use traps and baits to catch them which are already available in the market.

The first thing you need to do is to find the entry point of mice. Find out where they are living and nesting. Once you know that, you can already set up your traps around that area.

After knowing that there are mice in your house, be sure to prevent other mice to get in. Use caulk and steel wool to seal up the house. According to Mannes, mice “can’t eat through caulk and steel wool.” She also said, “If they get into the garage, they might just decide to live under your car hood, where the engine is nice and warm.”

Shrubbery and branches that are attached to your house could help the mice in entering, so these must be cut back from the exterior of the house.

Protect your food in an airtight container. It will prevent mice to be getting attracted to enter your house. In addition, don’t leave pet food in a bowl for too long. Mice are attracted to this.

When all things failed and the problem is getting worse, know when to call help from a professional. Just be sure they are accredited.
