1 Student Died, 7 Others Hospitalized After Taking Deworming Tablet
DEWORMING – One (1) student died while seven (7) others hospitalized after taking the deworming tablet.
All the children in the Philippine received deworming tablets to free their tummies from parasitic worms so that their body can absorb all the nutritious food they eat.
The Department of Health (DOH) are the ones who organize the deworming program all over the country.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, San Isidro Elementary School at Surigao Del Norte conducted a mass deworming to their 300 students on July 23.
Unfortunately, a young boy died after taking the medicine given by their school nurse. The kid felt terrible stomach pain and lost his vision 5 hours after taking the medicine.
According to the report, the young boy was immediately brought to the nearby hospital but later lost his life.
The kid’s grandmother wondered about his cause of death. She said they will just wait for the result of the autopsy of his grandchild.
The class adviser of the young boy, Thelda Paray, said the kid told her that he has been experiencing frequent stomach pains since June. During the mass deworming, the kid was not complaining about his stomach issue.
Based on the report, 7 of the young boy’s school mates were also brought to the hospital after they felt dizzy and blurry vision after drinking the medicine. The parents were alarmed on the incident. Some of them didn’t let their children take tablets.
Health official Nida Entoc said they will temporarily suspend all the mass deworming program in Surigao Del Norte until they are done with the investigation.
“I-hold muna natin until such time na malaman natin ang totoong cause ng kamatayan ng bata,” said Entoc.
