DOH Hiring 26,000 Contractual Health Workers W/ Regular Employee Benefits
DOH – The Department of Health (DOH) is hiring over 26000 contractual health workers with similar benefits of a regular government employee.
Health professionals are among the most needed workers in the Philippines today since some of them decided to go abroad to earn a better salary. Their health care services are needed by millions of people in the Philippines.
DOH is the ones who deploy nurses, dentists, doctors, midwives, and other health professionals nationwide to support the fulfillment of Universal Health Care.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, DOH is hiring 26,035 contractual health workers in their department. They opened several positions such as doctors, dentists, medical technologist, nurses, pharmacist, midwife, nutritionist, and physical therapist.
The director of DOH’s Health Human Resource Development Bureau, Kenneth Ronquillo, said the hired contractual health workers will most likely be posted in their rural health units.
“Ito ‘yong mga profession na kailangan natin sa rural health units usually. Sa highly-urbanized cities and independent component cities, nakikita sila sa mga health center natin,” said Ronquillo.

According to the report, the hired contractual health workers will be receiving the same benefits as permanent government employees. However, they are required to renew their contract after one (1) year.
Meanwhile, the president of the Alliance of Health Workers, Robert Mendoza, expressed his contradiction to the new project of DOH.
“Kung tuloy-tuloy itong offer ng ating gobyerno na pag-offer ng contractualization ng health workers, talagang aalis ang ating health workers,” he said.

Based on the report, DOH answered that said there is a process in approving a regular position in the department.
“Inaayos natin ‘yan with the Department of Budget and Management, and within the context ng Universal Health Care law,” said Ronquillo.
The health department is also making sure that they have enough number of graduates who are ready to work as health professionals in the country.
