Alexander the Great was born in the city of Pella in central Macedonia in 356 BC. He was the son of King Phillip II and his fourth wife Olympias. He was dubbed “the Great” due to his extraordinary military strategic and leadership skills.
Here are some of his works and contributions:
1. He conquered many nations
Alexander wanted to place a vast empire with him as the ruler. He conquered most major nations in the Middle East and Asia Minor and overthrew the Persian king Darius III and owned the Persian Empire. The creation of the Roman Empire were all based on his conquests
2. The Hellenistic Period
Alexander mixed Greek culture with elements from other countries. This is now known as Hellenism, which is derived from the Greek word Hellas or Ellás ( Ἑλλάς).
3. Trade
Alexander was the one responsible for opening the trade relations between east and west. He also made cities near the trade routes on the way to India.
4. Inspiration from his conquest
His conquest inspired people to study science. Not only that, there are also contributions in the field of mathematics, science, geography, philosophy, and astronomy that were also sparked by his conquests.
