It can also be a short term case of anemia or long-term. When taking medications, an anemic person could take 2 to three weeks to start seeing improvements.

If you’re looking for other simpler ways to treat anemia, here are some foods you could eat to improve your health and fight anemia:

LEAFY GREENS

Leafy greens (especially dark ones) are good sources of nonheme iron such spinach and kale. However, there is also a downside to it. Some greens contain the compound ‘oxalates’ which prevents the body from absorbing nonheme iron. So don’t totally rely on it as a cure.

MEAT AND POULTRY

All meat and poultry foods have heme iron. While chickens have lower amounts of iron, other meats such as red meat and lamb are very excellent choices. Combining it with leafy greens also boosts the iron absorption.

LIVER

Some people don’t like eating organs. But this is actually one of the best sources of iron. It also contains folate. Other organs that are rich in iron are: heart, kidney, and beef tongue.

SEAFOOD

Most fish contain fair amounts of iron. Some seafood can provide heme iron. Shellfish are great sources of heme iron as well. Shellfish such as: oysters, clams, and shrimp.
