A recent report in ABS-CBN states that most of the dirty canals, sewers and drainages are in Manila City, as well as part of the Manila Bay.

Moreno and Climatu also inspected Barangay 718 in Manila, where lies the estuaries of San Antonio Abad.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Climatu said that the coliform level were previously high at about 1.3 billion, while nowit decreased at about 10 million. He further said that they will still continue to clean the drainages.

At about 70 families live near the estuaries previously. The officials asked the remaining families to move to a relocation site in Caloocan.

Climatu further said that they wanted to see the progress and prioritize the drainages as they all lead to the Manila Bay.

As per the report, Climatu said that the clearance for the drainage is about 3 meters, thus, any buildings or fences that are within those three meters should be demolished.

As for Moreno, he will also prioritize the sewage issue in order to progress the clean-up of Manila, further noting that this is one of the creeks that played a major role in polluting the waters of Manila Bay.

He further said that he was glad that the DENR took initiative on the relocation of settlers within Manila and not far away from the city. He also urged the settlers to relocate.

Moreno further warned the establishments with a cease and desist order from the DENR to comply once they receive the order since DENR knows best when it comes to the wellness of the environment.

The Manila government will also comply with the DENR to close the Manila Zoo unless the establishment will comply with the department’s requirements.
