New York City Declared ‘Climate Emergency’
CLIMATE EMERGENCY – The huge declaration was made by the city in the last days of June, calling for action to restore a safe climate.
Climate change pose an imminent threat to our existence, some experts say. But as we see it, most people are not alarmed. With the global temperature continuously rising, the planet could end up inhabitable and too warm for human survival.
This was stated many years back, climate studies from the past years have shown that the Earth’s temperature keeps on rising.
Meanwhile, New York City, in the past, have always been vocal about their collective opinions and are never afraid to make huge declarations. The City Council in New York have made and presented resolutions back in the days that demand huge things such as world peace and banning of a racial slur.
But the grandest declaration made by the City was the resolution to declare a ‘Climate Emergency’ in the last days of June.
It sees the constant rise of temperature with the climate as a crisis that pose imminent danger. They’re asserting the opinion that getting people and government bodies to see the climate situation as an urgent emergency would be the sole action to raise the level of ‘global mobilization’ that is necessary to reverse or stop it.
Currently, New York is the largest city to successfully pass such a huge measure. It raised an announcement last week calling for “an immediate emergency mobilization to restore a safe climate.”
According to a Brooklyn-based environmental group – Climate Mobilization, the city just joined the movement with London, Sydney and 722 locals within 15 countries in total.
This is according to an article from The New York Times.
The City Council in Los Angeles even went further last Wednesday as the city passed a measure to formalize the city’s own emergency declaration. They have referred to climate change as an important issue that they have to face.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
