LGUs & HEIs Urged by CHED To Agree on Class Suspension Protocols
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is now urging the Local Government Units and Higher Education Institutions to develop class suspension protocols.
LGUs and HEIs are being urged by CHED to develop such protocols in cases of inclement weather condition since there are no automatic class cancellations.
CHED chairman J. Prospero de Vera III noted that the existing policies allow both LGUs and tertiary institution to declare the cancellation of classes.
“There is CHED Memorandum Order 15, series of 2012 that gives HEIs the power to do this but there is also Executive Order 66, series of 2012 that says LGUs have the power to suspend,” De Vera said.
The statement came after the University of the East (UE) initially pushed the college-level class on Monday (July 1) despite the order of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to suspend classes in all levels.
Moreno warned UE that he would cancel its permit to operate if its personnel would continue to disobey the class suspension order.
UE eventually suspend the classes in all levels after the Moreno’s statement on Facebook.
