Plastic Waste Found On Recently Dead Sea Turtle In Negros Occidental

PLASTIC WASTE – A plastic waste was recently found inside a dead sea turtle last Tuesday at the municipality of Valladolid, Negros Occidental.

According to an article in Manila Bulletin, the waste was believed to be the cause of the turtle’s death.

The municipality police chief Capt. Joseth Catonina said that a resident named Arnel Emplamado found the dead two-feet wide and three-feet long turtle on the beach. Catonina further said that the shell and tail (carapace) of the deceased turtle appeared to be damaged.

Some of the residents in Valladolid were reported to have discovered the plastic coming out of the turtle’s rectum. Catonina further deduced that this may be the cause of the turtle’s death

As per the report, Municipal Agriculture Office and barangay officials that were led by village chief Bill Kratzer was reported have the turtle buried near where it was found.

Another turtle incident happened last Friday in Silay City, Negros Occidental where a 100kg green sea turtle was trapped in a fish pen. The residents rescued the said turtle. Luckily, it has no injuries and was sent back to sea afterwards.
