Director’s Guild Says Value of Safety Protocols on Set Reminded By Death of Eddie Garcia

EDDIE GARCIA – The Director’s Guild of the Philippines Inc. (DGPI) released a statement over the death of veteran actor Eddie Garcia and emphasized the value of safety protocols on the set.

Recently, the Philippine entertainment industry loss a legend and one of its greatest actors. Veteran actor Eddie Garcia died yesterday, June 20, following an accident on the set.

Tito Eddie was confined in Makati Medical Center for around twelve(12) days. He was in a comatose state. The veteran actor tripped on a cable wire during a taping for the GMA-7 television series Rosang Agimat.

Eddie Garcia was in a critical condition for several days. He was in a comatose state and was diagnosed with cervical fracture. Love, support, and prayers poured out for him and his family.

Yesterday, June 20, Eddie Garcia died at 4:55 pm. His death sparked a statement from the Director’s Guild of the Philippines. The DGPI expressed its mourning and the value of the safety protocols on the set.

Undeniably, the GMA-7 received a lot of bashing after it allegedly had no medics on the set during the accident. To this, the Kapuso network vowed for a thorough investigation.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN, the Director’s Guild tagged Eddie Garcia’s death as a “sad and urgent reminder to the film and television industries” over the value of the safety protocols on the set.

The DGPI also stated in its statement that the mark left by Garcia will forever stay and he is one of the greatest actors in the Philippine show business.

According to the report, Tito Eddie has spent 70 years of his life in showbiz and has garnered a lot of acting and directing awards.

“His was a long and inspiring career, whose greatness never waned, even as he generously contributed to the national film culture as an actor right up to the age of 90.

An iconic giant who will continue to influence generations of actors and filmmakers to come, Eddie Garcia and his immortal legacy shall be missed,” the Director’s Guild stated.
