NGCP Says Luzon Grid Placed Under Red & Yellow Alert
Red and yellow alert status has been raised over the Luzon Grid again due to the outages of several power plants leading to thinning reserves.
On Thursday (June 20, 2019), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the schedules of red and yellow alert status in Luzon Grid.
NGCP said in an advisory that the yellow alert will be raised from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the red alert status will be raised from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The Luzon Grid‘s expected peak demand has already reached 10.995 Mega Watts against its available capacity of 11,217 MW.
The yellow alert indicated that the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 MW for Luzon.
The red alert refers to system where in generation deficiency occurs.
The Department of Energy (DOE) will release further details and information later today, according to NGCP.
