Today, June 19, the Filipino people are celebrating the birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. He was born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.

The national hero who was a writer and an ophthalmologist was born to Francisco Rizal Mercado y Alejandro and Teodora Alonso Realonda y Quintos.
