Notre-Dame de France or Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most visited landmarks in France. Back in April, the Notre Dame church caught on fire and people mourned as the cathedral went down in flames.

Also considered as one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, the medieval Cathedral features the creative utilization of the ‘rib vault’ and flying buttress, their magnificent rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration.

After the incident, some of the richest people quickly offered help for the Cathedral’s reconstruction. In total, millions of euros were pledged for donations.

However, the culture ministry in France revealed that less than a tenth of all the donations was handed over.

Approximately, only 80 million of the pledged 850 million euros was received. Also, most of it has been taken in small amounts given by regular people.

Two of the richest men in France quickly offered 300 million euros right after the cathedral fire incident. Fashion brand elites Bernard Arnault and Francois-Henri Pinault made the offers.

Culture Minister in France – Franck Riester – warned last Friday, that the vaulted roof of the iconic Catholic landmark “could still collapse” anytime, mentioning that the pledges were coming in a slow pace.

This is according to an article from GMA News.

Bettencourt family, owner of the globally popular L’Oreal also pledged 200 million euros as donations.

Riester revealed that the total received as of the moment has been coming in from small amounts.

Michel Aupetit, the Archbishop of Paris also noticed the concern last month and revealed: “the greater part of these donations have not yet materialized.”

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
