In this day and age, when technology is quick to develop, more and more people are being replaced by machines. Although some machines, might need human involvement to operate, there are machines that can run with AI.

In the Philippines, the local supermall SM Supermarket has recently introduced first-ever in-mall Artificial Intelligence (AI) humanoid robot as customer service.

And in the coming years, a professor from Asian Institute of Management said that nearly a million business process outsourcing or BPO workers are going to be laid off within five years due to the rise of automated processes.

Professor Christopher P. Monterola, PhD, apparently said, that approximately about 800,000 call center employees are going to be left out and rendered jobless in the five years because of the incorporation of artificial intelligence in automated processes changing the workplace.

This was reported by GMA News’ Katrina Son last Saturday.

Monterola also mentioned that machines operating with AI are able to handle calls more efficiently and easily than actual people.

He said that the number of BPO workers has been decreasing, contradicting the prior projections that predicted a 20 percent annual incline.

To prepare for the possibility of AI taking call center jobs, he recommended that call center employees must take the time to develop other skills for other jobs and make the switch to another competency.

This is according to an article from GMA News.

Despite, the threat of the “AI Invasion” in the workplace, the professor also foresaw positive outcomes from the situation.

It could also create more opportunities and more jobs.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
