The Manila International Airport Authority Is Looking To Impose Mandatory Flight Delay Explanations
MIAA – Manila International Airport Authority is planning to implement mandatory explanations for passengers when flights are delayed.
Several flights were delayed this week due to a lightning and bad weather advisory. Arriving planes at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), last Sunday, were delayed from their set schedules following a Red Lightning Alert.
Noticing the recent delays, MIAA decided that they could implement a mandatory requirement for airlines to provide an explanation for passengers whenever a delay in flight occurs.
Airport authorities said that the recent red lightning alert – meaning the airport is in danger of lightning – was raised and kept for about 2 hours delaying 54 flights, and suspending ramp operations. 7 flights were also diverted to another airport at Pampanga province.
MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal also revealed that announcements of flight delays were made in ever 10 minutes. However, many passengers had complaints about the airline not explaining what a lightning alert is.
In a conversation with Radio DZMM, Ed Monreal says the officials in-charge would conduct a meeting to discuss the matter further. He said:
“Magpupulong po ulit kami, makikiusap at sasabihin po namin na mandatory po ang pagpapaliwanag sa mga pasahero sa mga sitwasyong ganito. Gagawa ho kami ng resolusyon para ho magbigay ng importansya sa mga paliwanag sa mga pasahero.”
[We will conduct another meeting, we would request and tell [the airlines] that explanations are now required to be provided for the passengers in these situations. We will construct a new resolution to give importance to the explanation for passengers.]
This is according to an article from ABS CBN News.
President Rodrigo Duterte also concerned of the airport’s condition visited the facility and conducted a surprise inspection.
The airport officials and personnel are constantly keeping track of the inadequacies to make adjustments and maintain passengers’ convenience.
Flight delays are commonly due to technical issues or weather, it would important to understand that these delays are also for passengers’ safety.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
