Malacañang Palace Declares June 24 As Special Non-Working Holiday
Malacañang Palace declared June 24, 2019, as a special non-working holiday in Manila in observance of its 448th founding anniversary.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the holiday declaration through Proclamation No. 731 last June 4, 2019.
The Proclamation No. 731 would allow the residents of Manila to celebrate and participate in the event.
“[I]t is but fitting and proper that the people of the city of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” Proclamation 731 said.
The city of Manila has been established by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the first governor-general of the Philippines under the Spanish colonial rule on June 24, 1571.
