Luzon Grid Placed Yellow & Red Alert, NGCP Says

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the Luzon grid was placed under yellow and red alerts.

On Thursday (June 6, 2019), NGCP said that Luzon Grid will be placed under yellow alert starting 9:00 am until 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

NGCP would place the Luzon grid under red alert from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the afternoon.

The yellow alert means that the grid’s reserve power is below the required level while red alert means that demand could outstrip available generating capacity.

The power plant also explained that the peak demand reached 11,117 megawatts (MW) while Luzon Grid’s available capacity is at 11,393 MW.

The Department of Energy (DOE) would announce further details and information regarding the matter later today.
