Lucy Torres Gomez Allies Filed W/ Disqualification Case By Political Rival
LUCY TORRES GOMEZ – The political allies of Lucy Torres-Gomez were challenged with disqualification case by their rival party.
In January 2019, the political rivals of Lucy Torres-Gomez want her to be disqualified in her Congressional race.
However, actress’s candidacy as representative of Leyte’s 4th district remains.
Before that, Lucy Torres and her husband Richard Gomez have faced several petitions to disqualify them.
Torres-Gomez’ political career has been challenged for 9 years by several disqualification cases.
Based on a report from Rappler, disqualification cases have been filed versus Richard Gomez, Lucy, and their political allies.
The Torres-Gomez clan have successfully ended the decades-long domination of the Codilla family in Leyte.
Richard won as Ormoc Mayor, Lucy as Leyete Representative, elected Leyte Provincial Board Member Carmen Jean Torres-Rama, and Mayor in Merida Rolando Villasencio.
According to the report, shortly after Torres survived her disqualification case in January, her political allies in Leyte district experienced the same threat in their candidacy.
A man named Pedrito Abapo tried to cancel the Mayoral candidacy of Rolando Villasencio in November last year.
Abapo’s petition against Villasencio was later dismissed by the Commission on Election Second Division last April 25, 2019.
The COMELEC released a statement saying Pedrito Abapo’s appeal was denied due to “lack of factual and legal merit.”
Based on the report, a resident from Kanaga town named Donato Mendoza filed a disqualification case against Lucy’s sister Carmen Jean Torres-Rama who is now the Leyte Board Member-elect.
Mendoza filed the petition on January 3 questioning the residency of Carmen.
Again the Commission on Election junked the disqualification bid of their political rival.
