Vinegar Brands Containing Synthetic Acetic Acid Released by FDA
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the list of vinegar brands that contain synthetic acetic acid but does not pose any health risk to consumers.
FDA posted an advisory showing the brands of vinegar that contain synthetic acetic acid and failed to pass their standards.
The agency tested 39 samples of vinegar from different sources including their batch/lot number/ best before date/ expiry date and was found to contain synthetic acetic acid.

However, the agency clarified that the vinegar brands are safe for consumption but only means that the vinegar is substandard.
“The FDA would like to reiterate that the presence of synthetic acetic acid is not a safety issue and does not pose any health risk to consumers as this only means that the vinegar is of substandard quality,” FDA said.
The presence of synthetic acetic acid indicates that the vinegar did not go under the fermentation process.
