The Prices Of School Supplies In 2019 Compared To Their Prices In 2018
PRICE INCREASE – Here’s a price comparison between the school supplies’ prices back in 2018 and their current prices this year.
As the opening of classes are set for this year on June 3, many parents and students rush to open stores for a last minute shopping spree for school supplies.
Here’s a guide on the basic prices of common school supplies.
This guide is made with regards to the annual bulletin of Suggested Retail Prices (SRP’s) released by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The bulletin includes the prices of these 10 commonly used school supplies:
- pencils,
- sharpeners,
- erasers,
- ballpoint pens,
- writing pads,
- intermediate pads,
- composition notebook,
- writing notebook,
- spiral notebook and,
- crayons.
For the sharpener price, the average cost of a sharpener is now 55 percent higher from the previous prices. Hopping from P9.83 last year, it hopped to P15.25.
A pack of pencils by 3’s is now cost 43 percent higher than last year’s prices. The intermediate pad prices also increased by 26 percent.
The prices were tracked by ABS CBN by calculating the averages of SRPs of supplies that are under the same category with the same units. Like 80 leaves notebooks, crayon boxes (16s), single sharpeners and other commodities without noting the brand.

Based on the infographics, school materials like pens, papers, erasers and other supplies had their prices increased. From the lowest increase of 3 percent on crayons to the highest increase rate of 55 percent for sharperners.
