Lawmakers Recently Made An Inquiry Regarding Grab’s Discounting System

LAWMAKERS – State’s lawmakers raised the question about the private transit company – Grab’s system on discount granted passengers like seniors.

Grab has been around for a few years in the country and many people have been using it for its convenience. Check out this passenger’s experience in riding a Grab car a few days ago.

Last Thursday, lawmakers forwarded an order to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) calling for an investigation on the private transit company. They intend to investigate the company’s policies and practices that, according to them, indicates that the company was recklessly monopolizing the taxi industry.

The service company was accused of failing to provide the 20 percent discount for senior citizens. Also, they have reportedly operated with about 8,000 vehicles without proper authorization, on top of more violations.

Despite the accusations being present for a while, the constant push of the Congress might put grab in a situation of a legal battle against complaints that could end badly for the company.

Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves questioned the imposition of the law regarding huge companies during a hearing session, in which he said:

“How come with other players we can impose the full law but with big companies like Grab, they barely get beyond a slap on the wrist?”

Teves also mentioned that the transit company did not have the mecahnism in their system to automatically apply discounted rates for senior citizens every time they book for a ride or utilize the app as a third-party delivery system when ordering food.
