Palawan Tourists Gathers Starfish For Picture Taking
Several tourists in Candaraman Island, Balabac, Palawan were caught on camera gathering starfish in a sandbar for picture taking.
The travel vlogger ‘Lost Juan’ and his colleagues launch a drone in the sandbars of Candaraman Island and caught some tourists gathering the starfish.
Juan said that his drone captured the tourists collecting the starfish in a sandbar for a photo shoot.
“Nung una kasi nakita lang po ng friend ko. Ayun, parang nagpi-picture-picture sila. Doon sila sa starfishes na inipon nila,” Juan said.
The tourists eventually returned the starfish into the ocean after they noticed the drone monitoring their activities.
The concerned vlogger posted the photos on Facebook with a caption of “This post is to spread awareness and to educate people but I also want to say that IGNORANCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE. Common sense is the key”.
However, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD explained that taking pictures with starfish is not prohibited but it should be done on their natural habitat.
“Kung may makita man tayo na kahit anong uri ng yamang dagat, kahit anong uri ng wildlife, sana pabayaan lang natin. It is there to be appreciated but it is not there para pakialaman natin at sirain natin ang kanilang biological cycle. Kasi once na in-expose mo ‘yung starfish doon sa sand tapos mainit, definitely maaapektuhan ‘yung biological cycle nila kasi natutuyo sila and hindi sila designed na naka-expose ng matagal doon sa araw,” PCSD spokesperson Jovic Fabello said.
