SC Ruling On Order Over Filipino, Panitikan Subjects in College Receives Commendation from CHED

CHED – The Commission on Higher Education praised the ruling of the Supreme Court (SC) on its order regarding the Filipino and Panitikan subjects in college.

Previously, the Commission on Higher Education released Memorandum Order 20 which seeks to remove Filipino and Panitikan (Philippine Literature) as core subjects in college.

The Commission is in the pursuit of lowering the number of units of the general education in the tertiary level. Undeniably, its move gained opposition from the different groups.

Recently, an update regarding the issue has crossed the surface.

The Supreme Court sided the order of CHED in its five-page resolution. According to the SC, the petitioners’ have not issued new pleadings regarding the issue over the Filipino and Panitikan subjects in college.

The groups Tanggol Wika and ACT-Philippines are against the decision of the High Court. The former is planning to issue another plea over the matter.

On the part of CHED, based on a recent social media post on Manila Bulletin, it praised the SC for its ruling denying the motion for reconsideration over the Memorandum Order 20.

As of this writing, there are still no other information over the matter.
