The Department Of Education Expects More Than 27 Million Basic Education Students For This Year

Summer time is almost over. As the classes resume on the schedule announced by Dep. Ed, massive crowds of returnees and enrollees are expected in schools OVER 27 MILLION – Approximately, 27.8 million basic education students are expected to attend school this year according to the Department of Education.around the country.

The mentioned number is nearly three percent higher than last year’s number.

Leonor Briones, Secretary of Education reported that they are getting ready for the upcoming opening of classes. Most of the student population attends classes in the 47,000 public schools scattered all over the country.

Briones sees the constant increase in school population as a challenge for improvement. She specifically said:

“Given the continuously increasing population of… school children and increasing number of challenges that we have to hurdle, we are… increasing and expanding our… efforts to deliver quality, accessible, relevant and liberating basic education.”

The initial registration of the students were on January, the Department of Education has been preparing for the opening of classes since then.

Briones also revealed that there are at least 5 million students from kindergarten, grade 1, grade 7 and grade 11 that has already registered.

The private sector also joined Dep Ed in conducting the Brigada Eskwela to tidy up and prepare the school facilities and building for the opening of classes this June.

Alongside the team, there were at least 1000 employees from Philippine Business for Social Progress that got involved in the Ready For School campaign in different schools across the country.
