Proposal To Rename Compostela Valley To Davao De Oro Gains Approval of Pres. Duterte
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the law seeking to rename the province of Compostela Valley to Davao de Oro.
Almost all the provinces in Southern Mindanao bear the name “Davao” except for the province of Compostela Valley. It is known as the gold capital of the Philippines.
Considering that it sets different from its neighboring provinces in terms of the name, a move to set all the provinces in uniform name sparked.
It was proposed that the province of Compostela Valley would be renamed to Davao de Oro to align it with all the names of the other provinces in Region 9.
Recently, an update regarding the pursuit to make all the Southern Mindanao provinces have a uniform name crossed the surface.
Based on a recent article in ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the Republic Act No. 11297 granting the renaming of Compostela Valley province to Davao de Oro.
Reportedly, following the approval of the President, it would be subject to a plebiscite or a voting.
If the move to change the name of the province gains a positive support in a plebiscite, it would join the other provinces in Region 9 with “Davao” in their name such as the following:
- Davao del Norte
- Davao del Sur
- Davao Oriental
- Davao Occidental
