NGCP Warns Luzon Residents of Tighter Power Supply Until August

Tighter Power Supply Over Luzon Expected Until August, NGCP Says

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines warned the Luzon residents of tighter power supply for the next three months.

NGCP division head for power network planning Fidel Dagsaan said that the Luzon grid will continue to experience yellow and red alerts until August 2019.

The power operation would normalize when the hydropower plants resume operations after the rainy season in September.

Dagsaan also explained that the residents of Luzon should expect a tight power supply during those months.

Over the past few days, the Luzon grid has been placed under yellow and red alerts after the expected peak demand exceeded the available capacity of the power plant.

Hydropower plants are now operating at limited capacity because of the low water level while some power plants were performing under reduced capacity.

“The projection remains. We see hitting 11,400 MW next week, between May 20 and 24,” Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuen-tebella said.
