Yesterday, the decisions of the Filipino people were made final as they casted their votes for the midterm polls. The submitting of ballots for counting are still on-going, and some candidates already have high chances looking at the partial results, while some are left almost hopeless.

Out of the 63 names in the senatorial candidates list,

Atty. Romulo B. Macalintal, senatorial candidate of Otso Diretso pushing his advocacy for senior citizens already acknowledged his fate in the senatorial elections.

In a statement he released, he clearly stated that he concedes his defeat:

“But from the results coming from all the clustered precincts, it is clear that a great majority of our voters have chosen other candidates. And I respect their decision as I concede defeat in the senatorial race.”

This is according to a Twitter post by ABS CBN News Channel.

After the photos of Macalintal’s statement was posted, some of his supporters continued to show their support through Twitter comments despite his defeat.

“All my respect and admiration to this man. @attyromymac MARAMING SALAMAT PO!” – Twitter user @ianndoes

“ALL LOVE AND RESPECT FOR YOU MY SENATOR @ATTYROMYMAC!!” – Twitter user @hausofjam

“Thank you sir!!!! It was a good fight.” – Twitter user @otepmed

As Macalintal concedes his defeat, he thanked his supporters that were with him throughout his journey. Including his wife, Vice President Robredo and the senior citizens.

He also accepted the Filipino people’s decisions and respected their rights to choose. He even congratulated the winners in advance and left a final quote as he leaves his political career.

“If I should win, let it be by the Code with my faith and my honor held high. And if I should lose, let me stand by this road, and cheer as the winners go by.”

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
