Filipina Journalist Eloisa Lopez Wins Courage in Photojournalism Award
FILIPINA JOURNALIST – A Filipina journalist named Eloisa Lopes won $20,000 on Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award.
The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award honors the courageous work of female journalist like Anja.
She is a German photojournalist who was slain while she’s assigned in Afghanistan in 2014.
The award giving body gives recognition to the women who courageously documents under-reported stories all around the world.
Meanwhile, critics in the Philippines have called out President Duterte for allegedly “killing” several minors in his “drug war.”
Rappler Chief Executive Officer Maria Ressa is among the journalist who is against the president’s campaign.
Based on a report from PD Online, a Filipina journalist named Eloisa Lopez won the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award from the International Women’s Media Foundation.
The Filipina specializes in stories on women, religion and human rights. She started documenting President Duterte’s “war on drugs” campaign.
“She delivered a unique vision of compassion for the families left behind amidst the drug war, which stems from her ability to turn the camera in the right direction,” juror Robert Nickelsberg said.
According to the report, Juror Emman Mohammed said the Filipina journalist showed real courage for following the police officers every night.
“She is in the cross-hairs of the police every night, and as a freelancer pursuing this narrative, she truly embodies the epitome of courage,” said Mohammed.
Based on a report, the Filipina journalist will receive a $20,000 cash prize from the award-giving body.
Eloisa took to the social media to express her gratitude to International Women’s Media Foundation for giving her the award.
Honorable mentions went to Tasneem Alsultan of Saudi Arabia and Mary Calvert on the United States.
