Phivolcs Warns Filipinos of Hidden Quake Faults in The Philippines

State Seismology Agency Phivolcs Reveals Hidden Quake Faults Could Generate Deadly Earthquakes in The Philippines

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned the Filipinos of hidden quake faults in the Philippines.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. warned the Filipino people that there are still numerous undetected active faults in the country.

Solidum explained that those hidden faults could generate deadly earthquakes similar to the powerful tremor that hits Central Luzon last week.

The seismology agency said that they are already using technologies to detect the hidden quake faults in both land and waters.

Our active faults mapping is a continuing activity. We are constantly updating our Active Faults Map,” Solidum said.

The agency is working on the project “Mapping of Earthquake-Related Landforms in the Philippines” using high-resolution satellite images interpreting landforms showing evidence of active faulting.

Phivolcs was also using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to identify which fault is locked that storing up energy that would be released in future earthquakes.

The Philvolcs geologist also advised the public to be always prepared for unexpected earthquakes.

Last week, several earthquakes hit several parts of the country causing fear and various speculations from the public.
