List of LTFRB Provisions on Allowing Pets in Public Vehicles
PETS – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) now allows pets in public transport vehicles provided that the provisions the body set are met.
Previously, certain animals like dogs and cats cannot be brought along in riding a public transport vehicle. Most drivers would refuse to accommodate them in obedience to the law and to avoid penalties.
It is undeniably a challenge to pet owners in transporting their animals but most also understand that it is for the safety of the public. Meanwhile, a good news for pet owners recently crossed the surface.
On its official Facebook page, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced that pets are now allowed in public transport vehicles under certain provisions.
According to LTFRB, the Memorandum Circular No. 2011-004 was already amended allowing pets in Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs). There are provisions that should be met by the owner of the pet in bringing an animal along a public transport ride.
- If there are other passengers inside the PUV, the animals should be in a cage or carrier and it should be placed in the compartment of the vehicle intended for animals.
- If there are no other passengers inside the PUV, the owner may just carry the pet provided that it is free from foul odor. The pet owner should be responsible for the damage that the animal may cause including the sanitation of the vehicle if needed.
- The passengers’ safety, comfort, and convenience shall not be compromised in any way.
Undeniably, the decision of LTFRB to allow pets in public transport vehicles brought happiness to a lot of animal owners. Those who have no cars of their own may now bring their animals with them without having to rent a vehicle.
