Bacolod City In Negros Occidental Is No Longer Considered As A ‘Super City’

BACOLOD – The capital city of Negros Occidental is not anymore considered as a ‘super city’ and is no longer in the top 100 list of super cities.

Bacolod City is dubbed the “City of Smiles.” It is also home for beautiful resorts, museums and delicacies.

Famous for it’s colorful festival “Masskara Festival”, Bacolod City is also a great place for businessmen and investors. Get to know more about Bacolod City here.

According to an article from Panay News, Bacolod City placed 89th in last years “Top 100 Super Cities List.”

However, the City of Smiles probably frowned as it was no longer included in this years’ list.

The top 100 super cities are decided upon based on Tholons’ competiveness index. According to their website:

“Tholons Services Globalization Index or TSGI published annually is the industry’s premier rating and ranking of the Top 100 Super Cities and Top 50 Digital Nations.”

John Dave Dueñas, Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology’s president, stated that the fact that Bacolod is no longer included in Tholons Top 100 Supercities is considerably ‘sad news’.

He also explained that this should be a challenge for industry players to divert their focus to necessary factors for industry growth rather than focusing on politics.

Dueñas also stated that there are at least 35,000 full-time workers in the industry that need support and attention.

Bacolod City has a prosperous industry of information and technology processing and management. It is also a base for many global call centers and similar IT businesses.

Other than Bacolod City, Sta. Rosa and Iloilo were also removed from this year’s list.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
