No Unusual Activities in Mt. Pinatubo Following Quake in Luzon, Phivolcs Says

The state seismology agency Phivolcs explained that there are no unusual activities found at Mt. Pinatubo after the devastating Luzon quake.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) clarified that Mt. Pinatubo does not show any irregularities after the magnitude 6.1 quake in Luzon.

The magnitude 6.1 quake that hits quake in Luzon damaged several establishments and killed at least 16 people and allegedly affected an active volcano.

Unusual Activities

Several residents of Porac, Pampanga reported sightings of smoke and ashes allegedly coming from Mt. Pinatubo.

Phivolcs monitored the volcano and detected no unusual activities following the  magnitude 6.1 earthquake.

So far, the Pinatubo Volcano Seismic Monitoring network has not detected any changes in the condition of the volcano after the occurrence of the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that may indicate any sign of volcanic unrest,” Phivolcs said.

Unusual Activities

The agency reported that the volcanologists found no steaming activity on the volcano before and after the powerful tremor.

The volcanologists revealed that the reported smoke found at Mt. Pinatubo was actually dust clouds generated by rockslides.
