Metro Manila & 16 Provinces Expected To Experience Drought Next Month

The drought was expected to hit Metro Manila and 16 other provinces next month because of the prolonged El Niño, according to PAGASA.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the prolonged dry season would bring drought over Metro Manila and other provinces on May 2019.

PAGASA said that the dry season causes P8 billion damage in the agricultural sector but has no significant effect on total national production.

Here is the list of areas to be affected by drought next month:

  • Bataan
  • Cavite
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • Albay
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Masbate
  • Sorsogon
  • Metro Manila

  • Aklan
  • Biliran
  • Eastern
  • Northern and Western Samar
  • Leyte

The weather bureau said that dry spell was also expected over Bohol, Cebu, and Southern Leyte.

About 41 provinces are currently experiencing drought, according to the weather agency.

The prolonged El Niño also causes water shortage and water service interruption in some parts of the country.
